Sew Handmade I Spy Quilt Pattern
Thank You for purchasing a Sew Handmade I Spy Quilt Kit. To make your Quilt you can use the step by step tutorials on this Website to help you.
In your Kit you will find:
* 20, 5 1/2 inch squares
* Two squares of fabric to use to make your applique shapes.
* Border Fabric strips, one 3 inch wide strip for the top and bottom of the Quilt and two, 3 1/2 inch wide strips for the remaining two sides of the Quilt.
* Backing Fabric
* Binding 3 inch wide fabric strips.
* DMC Threads to use for the applique.
* An embroidery needle.
* Fusible Webbing to use to make your applique shapes.
You will need to supply:
* A sewing machine and cotton thread for your machine.
* General sewing supplies, scissors, pins...etc.
* An iron and ironing board.

Step 1: Arranging your I Spy Squares.
Using the image provided in your Kit arrange the 20, 5 1/2 inch squares in the order they appear in the image on a table top of floor.
Step 2: Making applique shapes and sewing them onto two squares.
The link to the tutorial below will show you how to make your applique shapes.
Step 3: Blanket Stitching around your applique shapes.
To ensure that your applique shapes will stay in position over time, the shapes will need to be Blanket Stitched to the fabric.
The following link will take you to a slide show tutorial which will show you how to Blanket Stitch your applique shapes.
Step 4: Piecing the Quilt Together
Once your applique sqaures have been blanket-stitched your are ready to put the Quilt together.
Step 5: Sewing a border around the Quilt Top.
You have three strips of fabric for your border. One 3 inch wide strip for the top and bottom of the Quilt and two, 3 1/2 inch wide strips for the remaining two sides of the Quilt. The following link will take you to a tutorial which will show you how to sew a border around the Quilt Top. Begin reading from point 14a & 14b onwards.
Step 6: Basting your Quilt
Now your Quilt will be basted together using the backing fabric, wadding and the Quilt Top. The following link will provide you with detailed information about how to Baste your Quilt Together. It is an important step as you need to secure all the three layers of your Quilt together before you can quilt it.
Step 7: Quilting Your Quilt
There are many different ways that a Quilt can be quilted. Quilts can be machine quilted in various ways and hand quilted. The following link will take you to information about quilting and will show ways you can quilt your Quilt. Read the information and pick the type of quilting you would like to do on your Quilt. For a first time quilter can I suggest the easiest machine quilting to do is- Quilting a Straight Line on the Sewing Machine.
Step 8: Making and Sewing the Binding on your Quilt.
The Binding is the fabric which is used to cover and hold the raw edges of your Quilt together- the top, batting and backing- after the Quilt is quilted. Making the binding and sewing it onto the Quilt is the last step to finishing your Quilt.
